Amie is an artist, naturalist, and former Program Director of the Bisbee Science Lab.
Artist statement: My name is Amie Esteves, and I’ve always enjoyed drawing, painting, and spending time in nature. Originally from Connecticut, I settled in Cochise County in 2019 to enjoy the warmer, sunnier days and tight-knit community of Bisbee. I was immediately enamored with the awe inspiring landscape of the sky islands and the stark beauty of the desert.

In recent years my art has come to represent the intricate ecological and human connections that weave together landscapes and the beings that inhabit them. I am constantly struck by the profound relationships that maintain the health of our environmental and human communities; how dependent we all are on one-another.
I am grateful everyday to call this area home, and hope that visitors and residents alike can take a moment to appreciate the world around us and our place in it.

Amie created this painting in 2022 after staying in the artist cabin with her husband Trevor Lauber. The painting reflects key environmental features of Cave Creek Canyon and Portal, AZ, including the endangered Chiricahua Leopard Frog, a giant water bug (Lethocerus medius), a sycamore leaf and seed pods, canyon cliffs, and the Portal Cafe.
